Introduction
On behalf of the Mid-Atlantic Asian Pacific American Medical Student Association (APAMSA) regions, we would like to invite you to the 2014 Annual Mid-Atlantic Regional Conference. This year we are hosting the event in Philadelphia on the campus of the Perelman School of Medicine. Any and all students studying or interested in health care are welcome. This year we are fortunate enough to have Dr. Walter Tsou, a leader in health reform and financing, as our keynote speaker. Alongside Dr. Tsou, we have several other faculty and health professionals that we are very excited to have as speakers and discussion leaders.
This event is meant to both inspire developing health care professionals to take a stronger interest in addressing the public health challenges of the Asian and Pacific Islander communities, as well as inform them on the upcoming changes in America’s evolving healthcare reforms. We recognize that as medical students learn the practical knowledge of medicine necessary to practice, it can oftentimes feel disconnected from their original reasons for practicing medicine. This conference is meant to be an opportunity for those students to revisit those original driving motivations, and remind themselves of the invaluable impact that knowledge will have. We hope that by attending this conference, you will have the chance to interact with inspiring figures in various fields of medicine and to gain a deeper appreciation of your potential for bringing change and help to where it is needed.
This year, we are hosting the regional conference in Stemmler Hall at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. The official address is 3450 Hamilton Walk, Philadelpha PA 19104. Access to Stemmler Hall is easiest through the entrance on Spruce St and 36th St. For comprehensive street directions and wheelchair access points, please consult:
